PPC advertising - A few things you should know

There are many ways for advertisers to reach their targets … but PPC advertising is now considered one of the fastest, most potent, and cost-effective online techniques to do so. If you wish to promote your website more effectively, or simply to learn a few more things about pay per click advertising, here’s what you should know.

What is PPC?

PPC, or Pay Per Click, is an online advertising concept offered by several search engines, content websites and advertising networks, to various advertisers. Ever since it was introduced, pay per click – PPC has, in recent years, become extremely popular, and has made advertisers sit up and take keen, notice. Pay per click has revolutionized the advertising business and has proved to be a very powerful medium for reaching an advertiser’s targets, when used in combination with other traditional, offline, advertising programs.

Recognizing its proven, effectiveness in reaching targets, a wide spectrum of advertisers are now revising their advertising and media strategies to include PPC programs. To them, the significant, extra coverage of targets delivered by pay per click marketing, is also adding to the profitability of their businesses.

Is PPC the lowest-cost ad medium?

As opposed to the costs involved for traditional, offline, advertising campaigns, pay per click is the simplest, cheapest and most cost-effective, online advertising vehicles today. Pay Per Click, or PPC advertising involves the payment of an extremely low sum of money to the search engine concerned. This money is paid each time a user clicks on an ad, which will, in turn, direct the user to the website of the advertiser. Insofar as pay per click, search engines, a bidding mechanism is applied, whereby, advertisers place their bids for keyword phrases, specifically those that are relevant to, or match, their customer targets. For example, if a user views a webpage that has content relevant to its own, or inserts a keyword in the search box which matches those in an advertiser’s list of keywords, advertisements immediately appear. The terms describing such advertisements are ‘sponsored ads’ or ‘sponsored links’. Cost per click (CPC) bids on pay per click, search engines, can be as low as $ 0.01.
However, the highest PPC bids are usually awarded higher rankings in search engine listings. Content websites do not have a bidding mechanism, but rather charge a flat fee for PPC to users.
